Grenadine Girl
03:10
|
|||
Once i met a girl made of sugar
Sweetest thing I'd ever seen
Something dripped, slipped slow from her lips
And it looked to me like Grenadine
Crimson queen
Syrup coursing through her veins
An empty bottle's all that remains
She's drunk on wine but sweet on you
There's not much left
Grenadine Girl, pour me a drink
It's super late but it's not what they think
Teach me to dance like Ginger or Fred
while sitting outside sipping cups of that red, it's alright
Legend says there once was a figure
Someone left behind in time
Check and look, flip back through your chapter books
A woman made of Grenadine
Mistress mine
Syrup coursing through her veins
An empty bottle's all that remains
She's drunk on wine but sweet on you
There's not much left
Grenadine Girl, give me a taste
It's super sweet but it won't go to waste
Teach me to dance like Shirley or Gene
while mixing a drink with a measuring cup full of Grenadine
Grenadine
Grenadine

Market Day
02:41
|
|||
Follow me through laundry lines, the ones we've crossed a thousand times
See the sheep your dad marked blue, some for me and some for you
Walk across the burning coals and show us all your blackened soles
Tell the tinkers how you like your pots and pans
Wooden house of brown and red, with the little hens just like you said
Show me how the eggs slide down the plywood walls
There's a penny in your pocket for the sweeties we will buy
I would thank the lady proper if I could look her in the eye
'Stead we watch the swordsman swallow silver blades like milk and wine
The monkey flips for coins and tips. We're enraptured every time
It's raining but we're doing fine
Take me to the caravan. Let the gypsy read our hands
Tell me I'll be tall and true, just like her and just like you
You're the only one who sees me for the boy I am today
And one day I will buy you sweeties when it's my turn next market day

Prism Song
02:27
|
|||
If I were a prism
Would you let me see your light?
Together we'll make color
Piercing through the night
But I
I think I'm missing a side
and I
I think I'm short one side
and I'm a gaping sore
In this physics metaphor
So forgive me
If I were a coastline
You could be my shore
Running side by side into
The sea forever more
But if forever's not your style
Maybe for a little while
And if that's too long a time
An afternoon would be just fine

Calm Down
03:42
|
|||
What a day it's been, sitting here, getting nothing done.
Ten tabs open and I am sufficiently numb.
How my heart bleeds
Take away my vision please so I will never have to shed a tear
Shut my eyes real tight, huddle closer to the wall.
I will be alright if I do nothing at all.
Someone hold me
In a dream my friends, they told me, I would be alright if I just tried.
I woke up and cried
and said calm down, calm down, calm down, calm down, calm down, calm down, calm down, calm down
To me, myself and I
To me, myself and I
Melancholia, I like the way I look without you
Bother someone else and maybe I'll write a book about you
But for the present time, cradle me in your fingers fine
Rock me back and forth and when it's time, I'll whisper that line
that goes calm down, calm down, calm down, calm down, calm down, calm down, calm down, calm down
To me, myself and I
To me, myself and I

Duchess Moon
02:58
|
|||
Goodbye to Hudson
Goodbye to the Island of Trees
Goodbye to the farms and the fields and the mountains and The Robbins and the bees
Goodbye to the holes in the walls
Goodbye to grey carpet in the halls
Goodbye I love you all
But it's time for me to go home
and I'm tired
Yes I'm tired
So I'm going home
Goodnight to Catskill
Goodnight to the Root and the fog
Goodnight to Blithewood
Don't know what took me so long
Goodnight to the corner room
Goodnight to the Duchess moon
Goodnight, I'll see you soon
But for now I'm going home
And I'm tired
Yes I'm tired
So I'm going home
So long to Midnight Tracy
So long to the rock
So long to the lily pads and coming home at four o'clock
So long to the mosh pit
and losing yourself for the hell of it
Fall through spring we do well with it
but summertime's for home
And I'm tired
So tired
So I'm going home

Homecoming
03:56
|
|||
Hello there
and welcome home
you been gone
for so damn long
take a big deep breath
and a photograph
cause memories fade
and print don't last
but while you're around, sit down
tell me bout adventures past
tell me bout the ships that you have sailed on
how you scrambled up their masts
so come in close
but don't get scared
cause stories are meant
to be told and shared
and i've seen your smile
posted online
and seein' you now
well the pleasure's all mine
tell me, tell me
are you doing fine?
tell me bout the mountains and the rivers you have crossed
i got time
hello all my good friends
hello yes it's me
i got all i need right now
sitting next to me
hello all my good friends
hello yes it's me
i got all i need right now
sitting next to me
tell me bout the trails that you have trekked on
how they took you far from home
but keep us in the back of your mind
so you know you're not alone

Our July
03:33
|
|||
I'm writing a song I can sing you as we look out at the city from a rooftop it provides. And although no words need be spoken, your eyes deceive you, show the love you try to hide. Do you remember the sound of the train as it sauntered by? Do you recall the scent of night time in the middle of July? Irises illumined in a stairwell buzzing with fluorescent light. Tracing the veins in your hand. The Beatles were the ones who had it right. Long nights, small fights. That was our July. Something's changed since the day we said goodbye. The seasons have left me behind. A year ago you were in my mind. Your memory's a specter, projection in my mind made of mirrors and vectors. Long nights, small fights. That was our July. Something's changed since the day we said goodbye.
All the stars in the milky way couldn't light a path back to me. It's a small matter anyhow. I don't need your company. The rooftop, it waits patiently. It will never hear or see your serenade beneath the street lamps. Your bittersweet harmony. We'll never get to see the light show from 200 feet above. It's not that we got lost. We just fell out of love. We just fell out of love.

When I was younger, younger than before
I never saw the truth hanging from the door
And now I'm older see it face to face
And now I'm older gotta get up clean the place.
And I was green, greener than the hill
Where the flowers grew and the sun shone still
Now I'm darker than the deepest sea
Just hand me down, give me a place to be.
And I was strong, strong in the sun
I thought I'd see when day is done
Now I'm weaker than the palest blue
Oh, so weak in this need for you.

The Titan
04:51
|
|||
Thought I was overweight
Then I saw I was carrying you
Mom said someday I'd be a goddess
Tried to be Hera
Looked up and realized I was Atlas
You'd run slow with heavy shoulders, too
I am compelled to save
I am compelled to save
Look down
And see
Where you stand
On me
Oh, I am Atlas
But without you
I am mapless
Could have put you down
But I'm a sucker for your eager heart
Dad said in a room full of women
He'd find the neediest one and fall in love
So far I am like him in that regard
I am compelled to save
I am compelled to save
Look down
And see
Where you stand
On me
Oh, I am Atlas
But without you
I am mapless
I'm cursed with the knowledge of the weight of your pain
But you can't be my burden if I'm gonna stay sane
How did you become my world
I am compelled to save
My shoulders were built to hold your weight
I am compelled to save
